Haftarah Shabbat Rosh Chodesh
Yeshayahu 66:1 - 66:25
~This Haftorah is not read on Shabbat Chanukah, on Shabbat Shekalim,
Shabbat Parashat HaChodesh, Parashat Masei and Parashat Reeh.~
{Maftir: BaMidbar 28:9-15}
66:1 Koh amar HASHEM hashamayim kis'i veha'aretz hadom raglai ei-zeh vayit asher tivnu-li ve'ei-zeh makom menuchati.
Thus says HASHEM: "Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest?
2 Ve'et-kol-eleh yadi asatah vayiheyu chol-eleh ne'um-HASHEM ve'el-zeh abit el-ani unechah-ruach vechared al-devari.
For all those things My hand has made, and all those things exist," Says HASHEM. "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.
3 Shochet hashor makeh-ish zove'ach haseh oref kelev ma'aleh minchah dam-chazir mazkir levonah mevarech aven gam-hemah bacharu bedarcheihem uveshikutzeihem nafsham chafetzah.
He who kills a bull is as if he slays a man; He who sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog's neck; He who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine's blood; He who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol. Just as they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations,
4 Gam-ani evchar beta'aluleihem umegurotam avi lahem ya'an karati ve'ein oneh dibarti velo shame'u vaya'asu hara be'eynai uva'asher lo-chafatzti bacharu.
So will I choose their delusions, and bring their fears on them; because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke they did not hear; but they did evil before My eyes, and chose that in which I do not delight."
5 Shim'u dvar-HASHEM hacharedim el-dvaro amru acheichem shon'eichem menadeichem lema'an shmi yichbad HASHEM venir'eh vesimchatchem vehem yevshu.
Hear the word of HASHEM, you who tremble at His word: "Your brethren who hated you, who cast you out for My name's sake, said, 'Let HASHEM be glorified, that we may see your joy.' But they shall be ashamed."
6 Kol sha'on me'ir kol meheichal kol HASHEM meshalem gemul leoyevav.
The sound of noise from the city! A voice from the temple! The voice of HASHEM, Who fully repays His enemies!
7 Beterem tachil yaladah beterem yavo chevel lah vehimlitah zachar.
Before she was in labor, she gave birth; before her pain came, she delivered a male child.
8 Mi-shama kazot mi ra'ah ka'eleh hayuchal eretz beyom echad im-yivaled goy pa'am echat ki-chalah gam-yaldah Tziyon et-baneiha.
Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Tziyon was in labor, she gave birth to her children.
9 Ha'ani ashbir velo olid yomar HASHEM im-ani hamolid ve'atzarti amar Elokayich.
Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?" says HASHEM. "Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?" says your G-d.
10 Simchu et-Yerushalayim vegilu vah kol-ohaveiha sisu itah masus kol-hamit'ablim aleiha.
Rejoice with Yerushalayim, and be glad with her, all you who love her; rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn for her;
11 Lema'an tinku ushovatem mishod tanchumeiha lema'an tamotzu vehit'anagtem miziz kevodah.
That you may feed and be satisfied With the consolation of her bosom, that you may drink deeply and be delighted with the abundance of her glory."
12 Ki-choh amar HASHEM hineni noteh-eleiha kenahar shalom uchenachal shotef kevod goyim vinaktem al-tzad tinase'u ve'al-birkayim tesha'asha'u.
For thus says HASHEM: "Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream. Then you shall feed; on her sides shall you be carried, and be dandled on her knees.
13 Ke'ish asher imo tenachamenu ken anochi anachemchem uviYerushalayim tenuchamu.
As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Yerushalayim."
14 Ure'item vesas libchem ve'atzmoteychem kadeshe tifrachenah venod'ah yad-HASHEM et-avadav veza'am et-oyevav.
When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like grass; the hand of HASHEM shall be known to His servants, and His indignation to His enemies.
15 Ki-hineh HASHEM ba'esh yavo vechasufah markevotav lehashiv bechemah apo vega'arato belahavei-esh.
For behold, HASHEM will come with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire.
16 Ki va'esh HASHEM nishpat uvecharbo et-kol-basar verabu chalelei HASHEM.
For by fire and by His sword HASHEM will judge all flesh; and the slain of HASHEM shall be many.
17 Hamitkadshim vehamitaharim el-haganot achar achat batavech ochelei besar hachazir vehasheketz veha'achbar yachdav yasufu neum-HASHEM.
Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, to go to the gardens after an idol in the midst, eating swine's flesh and the abomination and the mouse, shall be consumed together," says HASHEM.
18 Ve'anochi ma'aseihem umachshevoteichem ba'ah lekabetz et-kol-hagoyim vehaleshonot uva'u vera'u et-kvodi.
For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory.
19 Vesamti vahem ot veshilachti mehem pleytim el-hagoyim Tarshish Pul veLud moshchey Keshet Tuval veYavan haiyim harechokim asher lo-sham'u et-shim'i velo-ra'u et-kvodi vehigidu et-kvodi bagoyim.
I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tuval and Yavan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles.
20 Vehevi'u et-kol-acheichem mikol-hagoyim minchah l'HASHEM basusim uvarechev uvatsabim uvapradim uvakirkarot al har kodshi Yerushalayim amar HASHEM ka'asher yavi'u venei Yisrael et-haminchah bichli tahor beit HASHEM.
Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to HASHEM out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Yerushalayim," says HASHEM, "as the children of Yisrael bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of HASHEM.
21 Vegam-mehem ekach lakohanim la-Leviim amar HASHEM.
And I will also take some of them for priests and Levites," says HASHEM.
22 Ki cha'asher hashamayim hachadashim veha'aretz hachadashah asher ani oseh omdim lefanai neum-HASHEM ken ya'amod zar'achem veshimchem.
For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me," says HASHEM, "So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 Vehayah midei-chodesh bechodsho umidei shabbat beshabato yavo chol-basar lehishtachavot lefanai amar HASHEM.
And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me," says HASHEM.
24 Veyatz'u vera'u befigrei ha'anashim haposh'im bi ki tolatem lo tamut ve'isham lo tichbeh vehayu dera'on lechol-basar.
And they shall go forth and look upon the corpses of the men who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, and their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh."
Haftarah Shabbat Erev Rosh Chodesh
1 Shmuel 20:18-42
20:18 Vayomer lo Yehonatan machar chodesh venifkadetaki yipaked moshavecha.
Then Yehonatan said to David, "Tomorrow is the New Moon; and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty.
19 Veshilashta tered me'od uvata el-hamakom asher-nistarta sham beyom hama'aseh veyashavta etzel ha'even ha'azel.
And when you have stayed three days, go down quickly and come to the place where you hid on the day of the deed; and remain by the stone Azel.
20 Va'ani shloshet hachitzim tzidah oreh leshalach-li lematarah.
Then I will shoot three arrows to the side, as though I shot at a target;
21 Vehineh eshlach et-hana'ar lech metsa et-hachitzim im-amor omar lana'ar hineh hachitzim mimecha vahenah kachenu vavo'ah ki-shalom lecha ve'ein davar chai-HASHEM.
and there I will send a lad, saying, 'Go, find the arrows.' If I expressly say to him, 'Look, the arrows are on this side of you; get them and come'--then, as HASHEM lives, there is safety for you and no harm.
22 Ve'im-koh omar la'elem hineh hachitzim mimecha vahal'ah lech ki shilachacha HASHEM.
But if I say thus to the young man, 'Look, the arrows are beyond you'--go your way, for HASHEM has sent you away.
23 Vehadavar asher dibarnu ani va'atah hineh HASHEM beyni uveinecha ad-olam.
And as for the matter which you and I have spoken of, indeed HASHEM be between you and me forever."
24 Vayisater David basadeh vayehi hachodesh vayeshev hamelech el-halechem le'echol.
Then David hid in the field. And when the New Moon had come, the king sat down to eat the feast.
25 Vayeshev hamelech al-moshavo kefa'am befa'am el-moshav hakir vayakom Yehonatan vayeshev Avner mitsad Shaul vayipaked mekom David.
Now the king sat on his seat, as at other times, on a seat by the wall. And Yehonatan arose, and Avner sat by Shaul's side, but David's place was empty.
26 Velo-diber Shaul me'umah bayom hahu ki amar mikreh hu bilti tahor hu ki-lo tahor.
Nevertheless Shaul did not say anything that day, for he thought, "Something has happened to him; he is unclean, surely he is unclean."
27 Vayehi mimocharat hachodesh hasheni vayipaked mekom David vayomer Shaul el-Yehonatan beno madua lo-va ven-Yishai gam-temol gam-hayom el-halachem.
And it happened the next day, the second day of the month, that David's place was empty. And Shaul said to Yehonatan his son, "Why has the son of Yishai not come to eat, either yesterday or today?"
28 Vaya'an Yehonatan et-Shaul nish'ol nish'al David me'imadi ad-Beit-Lechem.
So Yehonatan answered Shaul, "David earnestly asked permission of me to go to Beit-Lechem.
29 Vayomer shalcheni na ki zevach mishpachah lanu ba'ir vehu tzivah-li achi ve'atah im-matzati chen be'eyneicha imaltah na ve'er'eh et-echai al-ken lo-va el-shulchan hamelech.
And he said, 'Please let me go, for our family has a sacrifice in the city, and my brother has commanded me to be there. And now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please let me get away and see my brothers.' Therefore he has not come to the king's table."
30 Vayichar-af Shaul biYehonatan vayomer lo ben-na'avat hamardut halo yadati ki-vocher atah leven-Yishai levashtecha ulvoshet ervat imecha.
Then Shaul's anger was aroused against Yehonatan, and he said to him, "You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Yishai to your own shame and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?
31 Ki chol-hayamim asher-ben-Yishai chai al-ha'adamah lo tikon atah umalchutecha ve'atah shlach vekach oto elai ki ven-mavet hu.
For as long as the son of Yishai lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Now therefore, send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die."
32 Vaya'an Yehonatan et-Shaul aviv vayomer elav lamah yumat meh asah.
And Yehonatan answered Shaul his father, and said to him, "Why should he be killed? What has he done?"
33 Vayatel Shaul et-hachanit alav lehakoto vayeda Yehonatan ki-chalah hi me'im aviv lehamit et-David.
Then Shaul cast a spear at him to kill him, by which Yehonatan knew that it was determined by his father to kill David.
34 Vayakom Yehonatan me'im hashulchan bachari-af velo-achal beyom hachodesh hasheni lechem ki netzav el-David ki hichlimo aviv.
So Yehonatan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month, for he was grieved for David, because his father had treated him shamefully.
35 Vayehi vaboker vayetze Yehonatan hasadeh lemo'ed David vena'ar katon imo.
And so it was, in the morning, that Yehonatan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad was with him.
36 Vayomer lena'aro ruts metsa-na et-hachitsim asher anochi moreh hana'ar rats vehu-yarah hachetsi leha'aviro.
Then he said to his lad, "Now run, find the arrows which I shoot." As the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
37 Vayavo hana'ar ad-mekom hachetzi asher yarah Yehonatan vayikra Yehonatan acharey hana'ar vayomer halo hachetzi mimecha vahal'ah.
When the lad had come to the place where the arrow was which Yehonatan had shot, Yehonatan cried out after the lad and said, "Is not the arrow beyond you?"
38 Vayikra Yehonatan acharei hana'ar meherah chushah al-ta'amod vayelaket na'ar Yehonatan et-hachitzim vayavo el-adonav.
And Yehonatan cried out after the lad, "Make haste, hurry, do not delay!" So Yehonatan's lad gathered up the arrows and came back to his master.
39 Vehana'ar lo-yada me'umah ach Yehonatan veDavid yad'u et-hadavar.
But the lad did not know anything. Only Yehonatan and David knew of the matter.
40 Vayiten Yehonatan et-kelav el-hana'ar asher-lo vayomer lo lech havei ha'ir.
Then Yehonatan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, "Go, carry them to the city."
41 Hana'ar ba veDavid kam me'etzel hanegev vayipol le'apav artsah vayishtachu shalosh pe'amim vayishku ish et-re'ehu vayivku ish et-re'ehu ad-David higdil.
As soon as the lad had gone, David arose from a place toward the south, fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down three times. And they kissed one another; and they wept together, but David more so.
42 Vayomer Yehonatan le-David lech leshalom asher nishbanu shneynu anachnu beshem HASHEM lemor HASHEM yihyeh beini uveinecha uvein zar'i uvein zar'acha ad-olam.
Then Yehonatan said to David, "Go in peace, since we have both sworn in the name of HASHEM, saying, 'May HASHEM be between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants, forever.'" So he arose and departed, and Yehonatan went into the city.
Haftarah Rosh HaShanah - First Day
1 Shmuel 1:1 - 1:28 ; 2:1 - 2:10
{Maftir: BaMidbar 29:1 - 29:6}
1:1 Vayehi ish echad min-haRamatayim Tzofim mehar Efrayim ushmo Elkanah ben-Yerocham ben-Elihu ben-Tochu ven-Tzuf Efrati.
Now there was a certain man of Ramatayim Tzofim, of the mountains of Efrayim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Yerocham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tochu, the son of Tzuf, an Efrati.
2 Velo shtei nashim shem achat Channah veshem hashenit Peninnah vayehi li-Peninnah yeladim ule-Channah eyn yeladim.
And he had two wives: the name of one was Channah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Channah had no children.
3 Ve'alah ha'ish hahu me'iro miyamim yamimah lehishtachavot velizvoach l'HASHEM Tzeva'ot beShiloh vesham shnei vnei-Eli Chofni uPinchas kohanim l'HASHEM.
This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to HASHEM of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Chofni and Pinchas, the priests of HASHEM, were there.
4 Vayehi hayom vayizbakh Elkanah venatan li-Peninnah ishto ulechol-baneiha uvenoteiha manot.
And whenever the time came for Elkanah to make an offering, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters.
5 Ule-Chanah yiten manah achat apayim ki et-Channah ahev v'HASHEM sagar rachmah.
But to Channah he would give a double portion, for he loved Channah, although HASHEM had closed her womb.
6 Vechi'asatah tzaratah gam-ka'as ba'avur har'imah ki-sagar HASHEM be'ad rachmah.
And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because HASHEM had closed her womb.
7 Vechen ya'aseh shanah veshanah midei alotah beveit HASHEM ken tach'isenah vativkeh velo tochal.
So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of HASHEM, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat.
8 Vayomer lah Elkanah ishah Channah lamah tivki velamah lo tochli velamah yera levavech halo anochi tov lach me'asarah banim.
Then Elkanah her husband said to her, "Channah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?"
9 Vatakom Channah acharei ochlah veShiloh ve'acharei shatoh ve'Eli hakohen yoshev al-hakise al-mezuzat hechal HASHEM.
So Channah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of HASHEM.
10 Vehi marat nafesh vatitpalel al-HASHEM uvachoh tivkeh.
And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to HASHEM and wept in anguish.
11 Vatidor neder vatomar HASHEM Tzeva'ot im-ra'oh tir'eh ba'ani amatecha uzechartani velo-tishkach et-amatecha venatatah la'amatecha zera anashim unetativ l'HASHEM kol-yemei chayav umorah lo-ya'aleh al-rosho.
Then she made a vow and said, "O HASHEM of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to HASHEM all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head."
12 Vehayah ki hirbetah lehitpalel lifnei HASHEM ve'Eli shomer et-piha.
And it happened, as she continued praying before HASHEM, that Eli watched her mouth.
13 VeChanah hi medaberet al-libah rak sfateiha na'ot vekolah lo yishamea vayachoshveha Eli leshikorah.
Now Channah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.
14 Vayomer eleiha Eli ad-matai tishtakarin hasiri et-yenech me'alayich.
So Eli said to her, "How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!"
15 Vata'an Channah vatomer lo adoni ishah kshat-ruach anochi veyayin veshechar lo shatiti va'eshpoch et-nafshi lifnei HASHEM.
And Channah answered and said, "No, my master, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before HASHEM.
16 Al-titen et-amatecha lifnei bat-Beliya'al ki-merov sichi vechasi dibarti ad-henah.
Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now."
17 Vaya'an Eli vayomer lechi leshalom ve'Elokei Yisrael yiten et-shelatech asher sha'alt me'imo.
Then Eli answered and said, "Go in peace, and the G-d of Yisrael grant your petition which you have asked of Him."
18 Vatomer timtza shifchatecha chen be'eyneicha vatelech ha'ishah ledarkah vatochal ufaneiha lo-hayu-lah od.
And she said, "Let your maidservant find favor in your sight." So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
19 Vayashkimu vaboker vayishtachavu lifnei HASHEM vayashuvu vayavo'u el-beitam haRamatah vayeda Elkanah et-Channah ishto vayizkereha HASHEM.
Then they rose early in the morning and worshiped before HASHEM, and returned and came to their house at Ramatah. And Elkanah knew Channah his wife, and HASHEM remembered her.
20 Vayehi litkufot hayamim vatahar Channah ben vatikra et-shmo Shmuel ki me'HASHEM she'iltiv.
So it came to pass in the process of time that Channah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Shmuel, saying, "Because I have asked for him from HASHEM.'
21 Vaya'al ha'ish Elkanah vechol-beyto lizboach l'HASHEM et-zevach hayamim ve'et-nidro.
Now the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to HASHEM the yearly sacrifice and his vow.
22 VeChannah lo alatah ki-amrah le'ishah ad yigamel hana'ar vahavi'otiv venir'ah et-penei HASHEM veyashav sham ad-olam.
But Channah did not go up, for she said to her husband, "Not until the child is weaned; then I will take him, that he may appear before HASHEM and remain there forever."
23 Vayomer lah Elkanah ishah asi hatov be'einayich shvi ad-gamlech oto ach yakem HASHEM et-devaro vateshev ha'ishah vateinek et-benah ad-gamlah oto.
And Elkanah her husband said to her, "Do what seems best to you; wait until you have weaned him. Only let HASHEM establish His word." So the woman stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him.
24 Vata'alehu imah ka'asher gemalatu befarim shloshah ve'eyfah achat kemach venevel yayin vatevi'ehu beit-HASHEM Shilo vehana'ar na'ar.
Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, one efah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of HASHEM in Shiloh. And the child was young.
25 Vayishchatu et-hapar vayavi'u et-hana'ar el-Eli.
Then they slaughtered a bull, and brought the child to Eli.
26 Vatomer bi adoni chei nafshecha adoni ani ha'ishah hanitzevet imchah bazeh lehitpalel el-HASHEM.
And she said, "O my master! As your soul lives, my master, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to HASHEM.
27 El-hana'ar hazeh hitpalalti vayiten HASHEM li et-she'elati asher sha'alti me'imo.
For this child I prayed, and HASHEM has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.
28 Vegam anochi hish'iltihu l'HASHEM kol-hayamim asher hayah hu sha'ul l'HASHEM vayishtachu sham l'HASHEM.
Therefore I also have lent him to HASHEM; as long as he lives he shall be lent to HSHEM. ' So they worshiped HASHEM there.
2:1 Vatitpalel Channah vatomar alatz libi ba'HASHEM ramah karni ba'HASHEM rachav pi al-oyevay ki samachti bishu'atecha.
And Channah prayed and said: "My heart rejoices in HASHEM; my horn is exalted in HASHEM. I smile at my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation.
2 Ein-kadosh ka'HASHEM ki ein biltecha ve'ein tzur ke'Elokeinu.
No one is holy like HASHEM, for there is none besides You, nor is there any rock like our G-d.
3 Al-tarbu tedabru gvohah gvohah yetze atak mipichem ki Kel de'ot HASHEM velo nitkenu alilot.
Talk no more so very proudly; let no arrogance come from your mouth, for HASHEM is the G-d of knowledge; and by Him actions are weighed.

5 Shove'im balechem niskaru ure'evim chadelu ad-akarah yaldah shiv'ah verabat banim umlalah.
Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, and the hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, and she who has many children has become feeble.
6 HASHEM memit umechayeh morid she'ol vaya'al.
HASHEM kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up.
7 HASHEM morish uma'ashir mashpil af-meromem.

He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory. "For the pillars of the earth are HASHEM's, and He has set the world upon them.
9 Ragley chasidav yishmor uresha'im bachoshech yidamu ki-lo bechoach yigbar-ish.
He will guard the feet of His saints, but the wicked shall be silent in darkness. "For by strength no man shall prevail.

The adversaries of HASHEM shall be broken in pieces; from heaven He will thunder against them. HASHEM will judge the ends of the earth. "He will give strength to His king, and exalt the horn of His anointed."
Haftarah Rosh HaShanah - Second Day
Yermiyahu 31:1 - 31:19
{Maftir: BaMidbar 29:1 - 29:6}
31:1 Koh amar HASHEM matza chen bamidbar am seridei charev haloch lehargi'o Yisrael.
Thus says HASHEM: "The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness--Yisrael, when I went to give him rest."
2 Merachok HASHEM nir'ah li ve'ahavat olam ahavtich al-ken meshachtich chased.
HASHEM has appeared of old to me, saying: "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
3 Od evnech venivneit betulat Yisrael od tadi tupayich veyatzat bimchol mesachakim.
Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin of Yisrael! You shall again be adorned with your tambourines, and shall go forth in the dances of those who rejoice.
4 Od tit'i cheramim beharei Shomron nat'u not'im vechilelu.
You shall yet plant vines on the mountains of Shomron; the planters shall plant and eat them as ordinary food.
5 Ki yesh-yom kar'u notzrim behar Efrayim kumu vena'aleh Tziyon el-HASHEM Elokeinu.
For there shall be a day when the watchmen will cry on Mount Efrayim, 'Arise, and let us go up to Tziyon, to HASHEM our G-d.'"
6 Ki-choh amar HASHEM ronu le-Yaakov simchah vetsahalu berosh hagoyim hashmi'u halelu ve'imru hosha HASHEM et-amecha et she'erit Yisrael.
For thus says HASHEM: "Sing with gladness for Yaakov, and shout among the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, 'O HASHEM, save Your people, the remnant of Yisrael!'
7 Hineni mevi otam me'eretz tzafon vekibatztim miyarketei-aretz bam iver ufise'ach harah veyoledet yachdav kahal gadol yashuvu henah.
Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the ends of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and the one who labors with child, together; a great throng shall return there.
8 Bivchi yavo'u uvetachanunim ovilem olichem el-nachalei mayim bederech yashar lo yikashlu bah ki-hayit le-Yisrael le'av ve'Efrayim bechori hu.
They shall come with weeping, and with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they shall not stumble; for I am a Father to Yisrael, and Efrayim is My firstborn.
9 Shim'u dvar-HASHEM goyim vehagidu va'iyim mimerchak ve'imru mezareh Yisrael yekabtzenu ushmaro kero'eh edro.
Hear the word of HASHEM, O nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, 'He who scattered Yisrael will gather him, and keep him as a shepherd does his flock.'
10 Ki-fadah HASHEM et-Yaakov uge'alo miyad chazak mimenu.
For HASHEM has redeemed Yaakov, and ransomed him from the hand of one stronger than he.
Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Tziyon, streaming to the goodness of HASHEM--for wheat and new wine and oil, for the young of the flock and the herd; their souls shall be like a well-watered garden, and they shall sorrow no more at all.
12 Az tismach betulah bemachol uvachurim uzkenim yachdav vehafachti evlam lesason venichamtim vesimachtim migonam.
Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old, together; for I will turn their mourning to joy, will comfort them, and make them rejoice rather than sorrow.
13 Veriveiti nefesh hakohanim dashen ve'ami et-tuvi yisba'u ne'um-HASHEM.
I will satiate the soul of the priests with abundance, and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says HASHEM.'
14 Koh amar HASHEM kol beRamah nishma nehi bechi tamrurim Rachel mevakah al-baneiha me'anah lehinachem al-baneiha ki eynenu.
Thus says HASHEM: "A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are no more."
15 Koh amar HASHEM min'i kolech mibechi ve'einayich midim'ah ki yesh sachar lif'ulatech ne'um-HASHEM veshavu me'eretz oyev.
Thus says HASHEM: "Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says HASHEM, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy.
16 Veyesh-tikvah le'acharitech ne'um-HASHEM veshavu vanim ligvulam.
There is hope in your future, says HASHEM, that your children shall come back to their own border.
17 Shamoa shamati Efrayim mitnoded yisartani va'ivaser ke'egel lo lumad hashiveni ve'ashuvah ki atah HASHEM Elokei.
I have surely heard Efrayim bemoaning himself: 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, like an untrained bull; restore me, and I will return, for You are HASHEM my G-d.
18 Ki-acharei shuvi nichamti ve'acharei hivad'i safakti al-yarech boshti vegam-nichlamti ki nasati cherpat ne'uray.
Surely, after my turning, I repented; and after I was instructed, I struck myself on the thigh; I was ashamed, yes, even humiliated, because I bore the reproach of my youth.'
19 Haven yakir li Efrayim im yeled sha'ashu'im ki-midei dabri bo zachor ezkerenu od al-ken hamu me'ay lo rachem arachamenu ne'um-HASHEM.
Is Efrayim My dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For though I spoke against him, I earnestly remember him still; therefore My heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says HASHEM.

Then you shall delight yourself in HASHEM; and I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Yaakov your father. The mouth of HASHEM has spoken."
Haftarah Yom Kippur - Minchah
Yonah 1:1 - 4:11 ; Michah 7:18 - 7:20
1:1 Vayehi dvar-HASHEM el-Yonah ven-Amitai lemor.
Now the word of HASHEM came to Yonah the son of Amitai, saying,2 Kum lech el-Nineveh ha'ir hagdolah ukra aleiha ki-altah ra'atam lefanai.
"Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me."3 Vayakom Yonah livroach Tarshishah milifnei HASHEM vayered Yafo vayimtza onyah ba'ah Tarshish vayiten secharah vayered bah lavo imahem Tarshishah milifnei HASHEM.
But Yonah arose to flee to Tarshishah from the presence of HASHEM. He went down to Yafo, and found a ship going to Tarshishah; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshishah from the presence of HASHEM.4 Va'HASHEM hetil ruach-gdolah el-hayam vayehi sa'ar-gadol bayam veha'onyah chishvah lehishaver.
But HASHEM sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up.5 Vayir'u hamalachim vayiz'aku ish el-elohav vayatilu et-hakelim asher ba'onyah el-hayam lehakel me'aleihem veYonah yarad el-yarketei hasfinah vayishkav vayeradam.
Then the mariners were afraid; and every man cried out to his god, and threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten the load. But Yonah had gone down into the lowest parts of the ship, had lain down, and was fast asleep.6 Vayikrav elav rav hachovel vayomer lo mah-lecha nirdam kum kra el-Elokeicha ulay yit'ashet ha'Elokim lanu velo noved.
So the captain came to him, and said to him, "What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your G-d; perhaps your G-d will consider us, so that we may not perish."7 Vayomru ish el-re'ehu lechu venapilah goralot vened'ah beshelmi hara'ah hazot lanu vayapilu goralot vayipol hagoral al-Yonah.
And they said to one another, "Come, let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this trouble has come upon us." So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Yonah.8 Vayomru elav hagidah-na lanu ba'asher lemi-hara'ah hazot lanu mah-melachtecha ume'ayin tavo mah artzecha ve'ei-mizeh am atah.
Then they said to him, "Please tell us! For whose cause is this trouble upon us? What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? And of what people are you?"9 Vayomer aleihem Ivri anochi ve'et-HASHEM Elokei hashamayim ani yare asher-asah et-hayam ve'et-hayabashah.
So he said to them, "I am a Hebrew; and I fear HASHEM, the G-d of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land."10 Vayir'u ha'anashim yir'ah gdolah vayomru elav mah-zot asita ki-yad'u ha'anashim ki-milifnei HASHEM hu vore'ach ki higid lahem.
Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, "Why have you done this?" For the men knew that he fled from the presence of HASHEM, because he had told them.11 Vayomru elav mah-na'aseh lach veyishtok hayam me'aleinu ki hayam holech veso'er.
Then they said to him, "What shall we do to you that the sea may be calm for us?"--for the sea was growing more tempestuous.12 Vayomer aleihem sa'uni vahatiluni el-hayam veyishtok hayam me'aleichem ki yodea ani ki vesheli hasa'ar hagadol hazeh aleichem.
And he said to them, "Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. For I know that this great tempest is because of me."13 Vayachteru ha'anashim lehashiv el-hayabashah velo yacholu ki hayam holech veso'er aleihem.
Nevertheless the men rowed hard to return to land, but they could not, for the sea continued to grow more tempestuous against them.14 Vayikre'u el-HASHEM vayomru anah HASHEM al-na novedah benefesh ha'ish hazeh ve'al-titen aleinu dam naki ki-atah HASHEM ka'asher chafatzta asita.
Therefore they cried out to HASHEM and said, "We pray, O HASHEM, please do not let us perish for this man's life, and do not charge us with innocent blood; for You, O HASHEM, have done as it pleased You."15 Vayis'u et-Yonah vayetiluhu el-hayam vaya'amod hayam mizapo.
So they picked up Yonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.16 Vayir'u ha'anashim yir'ah gdolah et-HASHEM vayizbechu-zevach l'HASHEM vayidru nedarim.
Then the men feared HASHEM exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice to HASHEM and took vows.
2:1 Vayeman HASHEM dag gadol livloa et-Yonah vayehi Yonah bim'ey hadag shloshah yamim ushloshah leylot.
Now HASHEM had prepared a great fish to swallow Yonah. And Yonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.2 Vayitpalel Yonah el-HASHEM Elokav mim'ey hadagah.
Then Yonah prayed to HASHEM his G-d from the fish's belly.3 Vayomer karati li el-HASHEM vaya'aneni mibeten she'ol shivati shamata koli.
And he said: "I cried out to HASHEM because of my affliction, and He answered me. "Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and You heard my voice.4 Vatashlicheni metzulah bilvav yamim venahar yesoveveni kol-mishbareicha vegaleIcha alay avaru.
For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods surrounded me; all Your billows and Your waves passed over me.5 Va'ani amarti nigrashti mineged eineicha ach osif lehabit el-heichal kodshecha.
Then I said, 'I have been cast out of Your sight; yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.'6 Afafuni mayim ad-nefesh tehom yesoveveni suf chavush leroshi.
The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; the deep closed around me; weeds were wrapped around my head.7 Lekitzvey harim yaradeti ha'aretz bericheiha va'adi le'olam vata'al mishachat chayai HASHEM Elokei.
I went down to the moorings of the mountains; the earth with its bars closed behind me forever; yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O HASHEM, my G-d.8 Behit'atef alay nafshi et-HASHEM zacharti vatavo eleIcha tefilati el-heIchal kodshecha.
When my soul fainted within me, I remembered HASHEM; and my prayer went up to You, into Your holy temple.9 Meshamrim havlei-shave chasdam ya'azovu.
Those who regard worthless idols forsake their own Mercy.10 Va'ani bekol todah ezbechah-lach asher nadarti ashalemah yeshu'atah l'HASHEM.
But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of HASHEM.'11 Vayomer HASHEM ladag vayake et-Yonah el-hayabashah.
So HASHEM spoke to the fish, and it vomited Yonah onto dry land.
3:1 Vayehi dvar-HASHEM el-Yonah shenit lemor.
Now the word of HASHEM came to Yonah the second time, saying,2 Kum lech el-Nineveh ha'ir hagdolah ukra eleiha et-hakri'ah asher anochi dover eleicha.
Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you."3 Vayakom Yonah vayelech el-Nineveh kidvar HASHEM veNineveh hayetah ir-gdolah le'elohim mahalach shloshet yamim.
So Yonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of HASHEM. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent.4 Vayachel Yonah lavo va'ir mahalach yom echad vayikra vayomer od arba'im yom veNineveh nehepachet.
And Yonah began to enter the city on the first day's walk. Then he cried out and said, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!"5 Vaya'aminu anshey Nineveh be'Elokim vayikre'u tzom vayilbeshu sakim migdolam ve'ad-ktanam.
So the people of Nineveh believed G-d, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them.6 Vayiga hadavar el-melech Nineveh vayakom mikis'o vaya'aver adarto me'alav vayechas sak vayeshev al-ha'efer.
Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes.7 Vayaz'ek vayomer beNineveh mita'am hamelech ugdolav lemor ha'adam vehabehemah habakar vehatson al-yit'amu me'umah al-yir'u umayim al-yishtu.
And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water.8 Veyitkasu sakim ha'adam vehabehemah veyikre'u el-Elokim bechazkah veyashuvu ish midarko hara'ah umin-hechamas asher bechapeihem.
But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to G-d; yes, let every one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.9 Mi-yodea yashuv venicham ha'Elokim veshav mecharon apo velo noved.
Who can tell if G-d will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish?10 Vayar ha'Elokim et-ma'aseihem ki-shavu midarkam hara'ah vayinachem ha'Elokim al-hara'ah asher-diber la'asot-lahem velo asah.
Then G-d saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and G-d relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.
4:1 Vayera el-Yonah ra'ah gdolah vayichar lo.
But it displeased Yonah exceedingly, and he became angry.2 Vayitpalel el-HASHEM vayomer anah HASHEM halo-zeh dvari ad-heyoti al-admati al-ken kidamti livroach Tarshishah ki yadati ki atah Kel-chanun verachum erech apayim verav-chesed venicham al-hara'ah.
So he prayed to HASHEM, and said, "Ah, HASHEM, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshishah; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful G-d, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm.3 Ve'atah HASHEM kach-na et-nafshi mimeni ki tov moti mechayay.
Therefore now, O HASHEM, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!"4 Vayomer HASHEM haheitev charah lach.
Then HASHEM said, "Is it right for you to be angry?"5 Vayetze Yonah min-ha'ir vayeshev mikedem la'ir vaya'as lo sham sukah vayeshev tachteiha batsel ad asher yir'eh mah-yihyeh ba'ir.
So Yonah went out of the city and sat on the east side of the city. There he made himself a shelter and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city.6 Vayeman HASHEM-Elokim kikayon vaya'al me'al le-Yonah liheyot tzel al-rosho lehatzil lo mera'ato vayismach Yonah al-hakikayon simchah gdolah.
And HASHEM G-d prepared a plant and made it come up over Yonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Yonah was very grateful for the plant.7 Vayeman ha'Elokim tola'at ba'alot hashachar lamocharat vatach et-hakikayon vayivash.
But as morning dawned the next day G-d prepared a worm, and it so damaged the plant that it withered.8 Vayehi kizroach hashemesh vayeman Elokim ruach kadim charishit vatach hashemesh al-rosh Yonah vayi'alaf vayish'al et-nafsho lamut vayomer tov moti mechayay.
And it happened, when the sun arose, that G-d prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Yonah's head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."9 Vayoemer Elokim el-Yonah haheitev charah-lecha al-hakikayon vayomer heitev charah-li ad-mavet.
Then G-d said to Yonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?" And he said, "It is right for me to be angry, even to death!"10 Vayomer HASHEM atah chasta al-hakikayon asher lo-amalta bo velo gidalto shebin-laylah hayah uvin-laylah avad.
But HASHEM said, "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night.11 Va'ani lo achus al-Nineveh ha'ir hagdolah asher yesh-bah harbeh mishteim-esreh ribo adam asher lo-yada bein-yemino lismolo uvehemah rabah.
And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left--and much livestock?"

Haftarah Sukkot - First Day
Zecharyah 14:1 - 14:21
14:1 Hineh yom-ba l'HASHEM vechulak shelalech bekirbech.
Behold, the day of HASHEM is coming, and your spoil will be divided in your midst.2 Ve'asafti et-kol-hagoyim el-Yerushalayim lamilchamah venilkedah ha'ir venashasu habatim vehanashim tishachavenah veyatza chatsi ha'ir bagolah veyeter ha'am lo yikaret min-ha'ir.
For I will gather all the nations to battle against Yerushalayim; the city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.3 Veyatsa HASHEM venilcham bagoyim hahem keyom hilachamo beyom krav.
Then HASHEM will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle.4 Ve'amdu raglav bayom-hahu al-Har haZeytim asher al-penei Yerushalayim mikedem venivka Har haZeitim mechetsyo mizrachah vayamah gei gdolah me'od umash chatzi hahar tzafonah vechetzyo negbah.
And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Yerushalayim on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley; half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.5 Venastem gei-harai ki-yagia gei-harim el-Atzal venastem ka'asher nastem mipnei hara'ash bimei Uziyah melech Yehudah uva HASHEM Elokei kol-kedoshim imach.
Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, for the mountain valley shall reach to Atzal. Yes, you shall flee As you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uziyah king of Yehudah. Thus HASHEM my G-d will come, and all the saints with You.6 Vehayah bayom hahu lo-yihyeh or yekarot vekipa'on.

It shall be one day which is known to HASHEM--neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen that it will be light.8 Vehayah bayom hahu yetz'u mayim chayim miYerushalayim chetzyam el-hayam hakadmoni vechetzyam el-hayam ha'acharon bakayitz uvachoref yihyeh.
And in that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from Yerushalayim, half of them toward the eastern sea And half of them toward the western sea; in both summer and winter it shall occur.9 Vehayah HASHEM lemelech al-kol-ha'aretz bayom hahu yihyeh HASHEM echad ushmo echad.
And HASHEM shall be King over all the earth. All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geva to Rimon south of Yerushalayim. Yerushalayim shall be raised up and inhabited in her place from Binyamin's Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Chananel to the king's winepresses.11 Veyashvu vah vecherem lo yihyeh-od veyashvah Yerushalayim lavetach.

Yehudah also will fight at Yerushalayim. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations shall be gathered together: Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance.15 Vechen tiheyeh magefat hasus hapered hagamal vehachamor vechol-habehemah asher yiheyeh bamachanot hahemah kamagefah hazot.
Such also shall be the plague on the horse and the mule, On the camel and the donkey, and on all the cattle that will be in those camps. So shall this plague be.16 Vehayah kol-hanotar mikol-hagoyim haba'im al-Yerushalayim ve'alu midei shanah veshanah lehishtachavot lemelech HASHEM Tzeva'ot velachog et-Chag haSukkot.
And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Yerushalayim shall go up from year to year to worship the King, HASHEM of hosts, and to keep the Festival of Booths.17 Vehayah asher lo-ya'aleh me'et mishpechot ha'aretz el-Yerushalayim lehishtachavot lemelech HASHEM Tzeva'ot velo aleihem yihyeh hagashem.
And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Yerushalayim to worship the King, HASHEM of hosts, on them there will be no rain.18 Ve'im-mishpachat Mitzrayim lo-ta'aleh velo va'ah velo aleihem tiheyeh hamagefah asher yigof HASHEM et-hagoyim asher lo ya'alu lachog et-Chag haSukkot.

In that day "HOLINESS TO HASHEM" shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. Yes, every pot in Yerushalayim and Yehudah shall be holiness to HASHEM of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Kenaani in the house of HASHEM of hosts.
Haftarah Sukkot - Second Day
1 Melachim 8:2 - 8:21~Maftir: BaMidbar 29:12 - 29:16~
8:2 Vayikahalu el-hamelech Shlomo kol-ish Yisrael beyerach ha'etanim bechag hu hachodesh hashvi'i.
Therefore all the men of Yisrael assembled with King Shlomo at the feast in the month of Etanim, which is the seventh month.3 Vayavo'u kol ziknei Yisrael vayis'u hakohanim et-ha'aron.
So all the elders of Yisrael came, and the priests took up the ark.4 Vaya'alu et-aron HASHEM ve'et-Ohel Mo'ed ve'et kol-kelei hakodesh asher ba'ohel vaya'alu otam hakohanim vehaLevi'im.
Then they brought up the Ark of HASHEM, the Tabernacle of meeting, and all the holy furnishings that were in the Tabernacle. The priests and the Levites brought them up.5 Vehamelech Shlomo vechol-adat Yisrael hano'adim alav ito lifnei ha'aron mezabechim tson uvakar asher lo-yisafru velo yimanu merov.
Also King Shlomo, and all the congregation of Yisrael who were assembled with him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen that could not be counted or numbered for multitude.6 Vayavi'u hakohanim et-aron brit-HASHEM el-mekomo el-devir habayit el-kodesh hakodashim el-tachat kanfei hakruvim.
Then the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of HASHEM to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the temple, to the Most Holy Place, under the wings of the keruvim.7 Kihakruvim porsim kenafayim el-mekom ha'aron vayasoku hakruvim al-ha'aron ve'al-badav milemalah.
For the keruvim spread their two wings over the place of the Ark, and the keruvim overshadowed the Ark and its poles.8 Vaya'arichu habadim vayera'u rashei habadim min-hakodesh al-penei hadevir velo yera'u hachutzah vayiheyu sham ad hayom hazeh.
The poles extended so that the ends of the poles could be seen from the holy place, in front of the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside. And they are there to this day.9 Ein ba'aron rak shnei luchot ha'avanim asher hiniach Moshe beChorev asher karat HASHEM im-benei Yisrael betsetam me'eretz Mitzrayim.
Nothing was in the Ark except the two Tablets of Stone which Moshe put there at Chorev, when HASHEM made a covenant with the children of Yisrael, when they came out of the land of Egypt.10 Vayehi betzet hakohanim min-hakodesh vehe'anan male et-beit HASHEM.
And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of HASHEM,11 Velo-yachlu hakohanim la'amod lesharet mipenei he'anan ki-male chevod-HASHEM et-beit HASHEM.
so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of HASHEM filled the house of HASHEM.12 Az amar Shlomo HASHEM amar lishkon ba'arafel.
Then Shlomo spoke: "HASHEM said He would dwell in the dark cloud.13 Bano vaniti beit zevul lach machon leshivtecha olamim.
I have surely built You an exalted house, and a place for You to dwell in forever."14 Vayasev hamelech et-panav vayevarech et kol-kehal Yisrael vechol-kehal Yisrael omed.
Then the king turned around and blessed the whole assembly of Yisrael, while all the assembly of Yisrael was standing.15 Vayomer baruch hashem Elokei Yisrael asher diber befiv et David avi uveyado mile lemor.
And he said: "Blessed be HASHEM G-d of Yisrael, who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and with His hand has fulfilled it, saying,16 Min-hayom asher hotzeti et-ami et-Yisrael miMitzrayim lo-vacharti ve'ir mikol shivtei Yisrael livnot bayit lihyot shemi sham va'evchar beDavid lihyot al-ami Yisrael.
'Since the day that I brought My people Yisrael out of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Yisrael in which to build a house, that My name might be there; but I chose David to be over My people Yisrael.'17 Vayehi im-levav David avi livnot bayit leshem HASHEM Elokei Yisrael.
Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a temple for the name of HASHEM G-d of Yisrael.18 Vayomer HASHEM el-David avi ya'an asher hayah im-levavecha livnot bayit lishmi hetivota ki hayah im-levavecha.
But HASHEM said to my father David, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a temple for My name, you did well that it was in your heart.19 Rak atah lo tivneh habayit ki im-bincha hayotze mechalatzeicha hu-yivneh habayit lishmi.
'Nevertheless you shall not build the temple, but your son who will come from your body, he shall build the temple for My name.'20 Vayakem HASHEM et-devaro asher diber va'akum tachat David avi va'eshev al-kise Yisrael ka'asher diber HASHEM va'evneh habayit leshem HASHEM Elokei Yisrael.
So HASHEM has fulfilled His word which He spoke; and I have filled the position of my father David, and sit on the throne of Yisrael, as HASHEM promised; and I have built a temple for the name of HASHEM G-d of Yisrael.21 Va'asim sham makom la'aron asher-sham berit HASHEM asher karat im-avoteinu behotzi'o otam me'eretz Mitzrayim.
And there I have made a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of HASHEM which He made with our fathers, when He brought them out of the land of Egypt."

and I will turn you around and lead you on, bringing you up from the far north, and bring you against the mountains of Yisrael.
3 Vehikeyti kashtecha miyad smolecha vechitzeycha miyad yeminecha apil.
Then I will knock the bow out of your left hand, and cause the arrows to fall out of your right hand.

5 Al-penei hasadeh tipol ki ani dibarti ne'um HASHEM Elokim.
You shall fall on the open field; for I have spoken," says HASHEM G-d.
6 Veshilachti-esh beMagog uveyoshvei ha'iyim lavetach veyad'u ki-ani HASHEM.
And I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in security in the coastlands. Then they shall know that I am HASHEM.

So I will make My holy name known in the midst of My people Yisrael, and I will not let them profane My holy name anymore. Then the nations shall know that I am HASHEM, the Holy One in Yisrael.
8 Hineh va'ah veniheyatah ne'um HASHEM Elokim hu hayom asher dibarti.

Then those who dwell in the cities of Yisrael will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for

They will not take wood from the field nor cut down any from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons; and they will plunder those who plundered them, and pillage those who pillaged them," says HASHEM G-d.

It will come to pass in that day that I will give Gog a burial place there in Yisra'el, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea; and it will obstruct travelers, because there they will bury Gog and all his multitude. Therefore they will call it the Valley of Hamon Gog.
12 Ukevarum beit Yisrael lema'an taher et-ha'aretz shiv'ah chodashim.
For seven months the house of Yisrael will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land.
13 Vekaveru kol-am ha'aretz vehayah lahem leshem yom hikavedi ne'um HASHEM Elokim.
Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified," says HASHEM G-d.

They will set apart men regularly employed, with the help of a search party, to pass through the land and bury those bodies remaining on the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a search.

1 Melachim 8:54 - 8:66 ; 9:1

8:54 Vayehi kechalot Shlomo lehitpalel el-HASHEM et kol-hatfilah vehatchinah hazot kam milifnei mizbach HASHEM mikeroa al-birkav vechapav perushot hashamayim.
And so it was, when Shlomo had finished praying all this prayer and supplication to HASHEM, that he arose from before the altar of HASHEM, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.
55 Vaya'amod vayevarech et kol-kehal Yisrael kol gadol lemor.
Then he stood and blessed all the assembly of Yisrael with a loud voice, saying:
56 Baruch HASHEM asher natan menuchah le'amo Yisrael kechol asher diber lo-nafal davar echad mikol devaro hatov ahser diber beyad Moshe avdo.
Blessed be HASHEM, who has given rest to His people Yisrael, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moshe.
57 Yehi HASHEM Elokeinu imanu ka'asher hayah im-avoteinu al-ya'azvenu ve'al-yitzhenu.
May HASHEM our G-d be with us, as He was with our fathers. May He not leave us nor forsake us,

And may these words of mine, with which I have made supplication before HASHEM, be near HASHEM our G-d day and night, that He may maintain the cause of His servant and the cause of His people Yisrael, as each day may require,
60 Lema'an da'at kol-amei ha'aretz ki HASHEM hu ha'Elokim ein od.
that all the peoples of the earth may know that HASHEM is G-d; there is no other.
61 Vehayah levavchem shalem im HASHEM Elokeinu lalechet bechukav velishmor mitsvotav kayom hazeh.
Let your heart therefore be loyal to HASHEM our G-d, to walk in His statutes and keep His
commandments, as at this day."
62 Vehamelech vechol-Yisrael imo zovechim zevach lifnei HASHEM.
Then the king and all Yisrael with him offered sacrifices before HASHEM.

And Shlomo offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered to HaShem, twenty-two thousand bulls and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Yisrael dedicated the house of HASHEM.
64 Bayom hahu kidash hamelech et-toch hechatser asher lifnei veit-HASHEM ki-asah sham et-ha'olah ve'ethaminchah ve'et chelvei hashlamim ki-mizbach hanechoshet asher lifnei HASHEM katon mehachil et-ha'olah ve'et-haminchah ve'et chelvei hashlamim.
On the same day the king consecrated the middle of the court that was in front of the house of HASHEM;
for there he offered burnt offerings, grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before HASHEM was too small to receive the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.
65 Vaya'as Shlomo va'et-hahi et-hechag vechol-Yisrael imo kahal gadol milvo chamat ad-nachal Mitzrayim lifnei HASHEM Elokeinu shiv'at yamim veshiv'at yamim arba'ah asar yom.
At that time Shlomo held a feast, and all Yisrael with him, a great assembly from the entrance of Chamat to the Brook of Egypt, before HASHEM our G-d, seven days and seven more days--fourteen days.
66 Bayom hashmini shilach et-ha'am vayevarchu et-hamelech vayelchu le'aholeihem smechim vetovei lev al kol-hatovah asher asah HASHEM le-David avdo ule-Yisrael amo.
On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king, and went to their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the good that HASHEM had done for His servant David, and for Yisrael His people.
9:1 Vayehi kechalot Shlomo livnot et-beit-HASHEM ve'et-beit hamelech ve'et kol-cheshek Shlomo asher chafetz la'asot.
And it came to pass, when Shlomo had finished building the house of HASHEM and the king's house, and all Shlomo's desire which he wanted to do.

Yehoshua 1:1 - 1:18
~Maftir: BaMidbar 29:35 - 29:39~
1:1 Vayehi acharei mot Moshe eved HASHEM vayomer HASHEM el-Yehoshua bin-Nun mesharet Moshe lemor.
After the death of Moshe the servant of HASHEM, it came to pass that HASHEM spoke to Yehoshua the son of Nun, Moshe' assistant, saying:
2 Moshe avdi met ve'atah kum avor et-haYarden hazeh atah vechol-ha'am hazeh el-ha'aretz asher anochi noten lahem livnei Yisrael.
"Moshe My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Yarden, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them--the children of Yisrael.
3 Kol-makom asher tidroch kaf-raglechem bo lachem netativ ka'asher dibarti el-Moshe.
Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moshe.

From the wilderness and this Levanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Chitim, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.
5 lo-yityatzev ish lefaneicha kol yemei chayeicha ka'asher hayiti im-Moshe eheyeh imach lo arpecha velo e'ezveka.
No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moshe, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
6 Chazak ve'emats ki atah tanchil et-ha'am hazeh et-ha'aretz asher-nishbati la'avotam latet lahem.
Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
7 Rak chazak ve'emats me'od lishmor la'asot kechol-hatorah asher tzivecha Moshe avdi al-tasur mimenu yamin usmol lema'an taskil bechol asher telech.
Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moshe My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
9 Halo tziviticha chazak ve'ematz al-ta'arotz ve'al-techat ki imcha HASHEM Elokeicha bechol asher telech.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for HASHEM your G-d is with you wherever you go."
10 Vayetzav Yehoshua et-shotrei ha'am lemor.
Then Yehoshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
11 Ivru bekerev hamachaneh vetzavu et-ha'am lemor hachinu lachem tzedah ki be'od shloshet yamim atem ovrim et-haYarden hazeh lavo lareshet et-ha'aretz asher HASHEM Elokeichem noten lachem lerishtah.
Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, 'Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Yarden, to go in to possess the land which HASHEM your G-d is giving you to possess.'"
12 Vela-Re'uveni vela-Gadi velachatsi shevet haMenashshe amar Yehoshua lemor.
And to the Reuveni, the Gadi, and half the tribe of Menashshe Yehoshua spoke, saying,
13 Zachor et-hadavar asher tsivah etchem Moshe eved-HASHEM lemor HASHEM Elokeichem meniach lachem venatan lachem et-ha'aretz hazot.
"Remember the word which Moshe the servant of HASHEM commanded you, saying, 'HASHEM your G-d is giving you rest and is giving you this land.'

Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land which Moshe gave you on this side of the Yarden. But you shall pass before your brethren armed, all your mighty men of valor, and help them,

until HASHEM has given your brethren rest, as He gave you, and they also have taken possession of the land which HASHEM your G-d is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and enjoy it, which Moshe HASHEM's servant gave you on this side of the Yarden toward the sunrise."
16 Vaya'anu et-Yehoshua lemor kol asher-tzivitanu na'aseh ve'el-kol-asher tishlachenu nelech.
So they answered Yehoshua, saying, "All that you command us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.
17 Kechol asher-shamanu el-Moshe ken nishma eleicha rak yiheyeh HASHEM Elokeicha imach ka'asher hayah im-Moshe.
Just as we heeded Moshe in all things, so we will heed you. Only HASHEM your G-d be with you, as He was with Moshe.
18 Kol-ish asher-yamreh et-picha velo-yishma et-devareicha lechol asher-tetzavenu yumat rak chazak ve'ematz.
Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words, in all that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and of good courage."
