Ami reflects on Yitro: It just shows here that the modern judicial system in the world was developed by a wise man over 2000 years ago the same as other rules such as social security.

Ami also reflected on Shekalim/Mishpatim: The whole world complains about how bad the Jews are and so on. If someone looks at this Parasha someone can see how human the rules were. Yes some of them were very harsh but someone needs to consider the situation at that period in the history. I think we should be proud of giving the world all of them [laws].

Miriam asked: I am confused about the Tent of Meeting. My understanding is that it was part of the Tabernacle and also “outside the camp” where Moshe would go to confer with God. What is YOUR understanding?

Rabbi replied: These were two Tents. One was the Tent of sacrificial prayer/ Tabernacle. One was the Tent of discussions with Moshe or as a 'congress' group. There was another Tent of Meeting that burned up with all the tribal leaders on the outskirts of the camp. So it is not a name of a tent but the description of the task the Tent stood for: meeting. Synagogue is basically the Greek word for such a meeting place/ tent... and there are many of them. Beit Knesset: a building [house] of getting together/ congress... So now that we have buildings, Ohel has been replaced with beit. Beit Torah, Beit Tefilah, etc.
